Initiation of Fatty Acid Synthesis
Fatty acid chains are elongated using acetyl CoA molecules that are generated in the matrix of the mitochondria. Since fatty acid synthesis occurs in the cytoplasm, these acetyl CoA molecules must first be transferred into the cytoplasm for fatty acid synthesis to begin.
